Exec
Station Manager: Rob Cocks
As part of a scientific study to find out if the Teesside accent is capable of audible broadcast via radio waves, Rob joined LUSH Radio in 2008, before becoming Head of Live Events, Assistant Manager, and then Station Manager. He knows how to fly a light aircraft, strip an assault rifle to its individual parts, and make a damn fine corned beef pie. When he’s not getting overly excited about new pop-punk EPs or growing facial hair, Rob can be found in the LUSH office sending polite emails.
Assistant Station Manager: Nathan Ifill
Nathan was elected Assistant Station Manager of LUSH Radio this year after bribing the entire membership with jelly babies. He was previously LUSH’s Services Co-ordinator, where he…co-ordinated services. He hails from a large town in the South of England which is famous for its roundabouts, but isn’t Milton Keynes. Nathan doesn’t have any pets, or socks, or money. He’s currently studying a four year course in mathematics, because he doesn’t like people. Google him, he’s everywhere. (Check your wallet.)
Head of Production: James Browning
James, who has presented and produced on LUSH for two years, became Head of Production by making up horrific lies about the other candidates. As such, he’s responsible for training presenters and producers as well as making the most annoyingly catchy jingles possible. He comes from a small, ridiculously middle-class town near St Albans, but if you listen carefully you can still catch the odd bit of West Country twang from his childhood. James is a third year International Relations student, and when not telling you why bombs are bad he can be found in front of the nearest television in a noble yet endless quest to understand every pop culture reference ever.
Chief Engineer: Jamie Taylor
Jamie is the gremlin behind the scenes, who lives in the equipment rackmount periodically swearing and throwing lengths of cable and arcane contraptions at passers-by. He is responsible for making sure that all the equipment works, and the stream is audible, and increasing the gorgeous quotient of the station twofold. Jamie has been a part of the station for 3 years, presenting his hugely successful Drum & Bass show, and enjoying a year as Head of Production, before he found his true calling hammering things into the mixing desk. Outside of LUSH, he enjoys Whiskey, Video Games and making inappropriate jokes about family members. You can find out more about him at his website (which we’re assured is equally as gorgeous as him).
Programming and Scheduling: Rishi Sharma
Rishi’s unrivalled exposure to the world of radio leant him towards the position: Both of Rishi’s parents work for BBC Asian Network, and he himself has had work experience at BBC WM. Rishi therefore has a great knowledge of the inner workings of radio stations and is currently considering the medium as a potential career path.
Head of Music & Online Editor: Brad Porter
Brad became Head of Music in 2010, having beaten the previous occupant of the position in a cage match (the rules have since changed slightly). Working hard on the Exec he soon rose to the heady rank of ‘alright, I guess.’ Having been part of the team which finally put together the first LUSH website that actually worked, he became LUSH’s first Online Editor in 2011. “Ain’t no thang,” he claimed, “but yeah, if you’re interested in contributing to the LUSH website then please get in touch.” He once met Jackie Chan’s son.
Secretary-Treasurer: Fayaaz Kasenally
Fayaaz is the first ever Secretary-Treasurer of LUSH Radio and as such looks after the mailbox and the finances of the station. He is currently in his final year studying Financial Economics (BSc version), being trained how to manage or blow a country’s money. Although born in London, Fayaaz has spent most of his life living in Mauritius (a small and awesome island in the Indian Ocean) and can speak fluent French and Mauritian Creole along with very poor English. He supports Manchester United and always has the time for a game of Fifa (Caution: Can get very passionate or even aggressive after a few games). Fayaaz was also voted “Best Newcomer” at the LUSH Awards in 2011.
Live Events Liaison: David Fletcher
David hails from Manchester, a city with a buzzing music scene. He keeps across upcoming releases and tours using social networking websites, magazines and blogs, and feels by doing this he can spot early interview opportunties to get the ball rolling at a quicker pace. David himself has organised and hosted live interviews with acts such as Frank Turner and feels he knows how much work is involved in the process, as well as how to best use communication channels in order to progress.
Head Of Marketing: Angus Tookey
Angus is currently studying a degree in Business Management specialising in Marketing. From his jobs at various Leicester bars and clubs, he believes that he has the relevant links to help promote the station. In addition to this, Angus also has contacts at DMU’s community radio station Demon FM, and is currently in the process of setting up link ups with some of their DJs who specialise in similar genres to that of his show, The Face of Bass.
LUSH Events Coordinator: James Farndon
Hailing from Lincolnshire James didn’t know of the concept of radio until he came to university, but instantly fell in love with ‘the magic box of sounds’. James is co-founder of Quite Good Media Ltd, an events management company, and is looking to push LUSH Radio to the forefront of university entertainment with new concepts such as Square Sessions and comedy nights. He is also the head of Leicesters Amnesty International Society, studies politics and listens to too much Brand New.
Social Secretary: Emma Roberts
Emma is a relatively new member of LUSH. She describes herself as “a fun-loving, approachable and sociable person…” and intends to work with the Marketing Exec to make sure that LUSH Socials are always well attended, inviting along non-members. Emma is also a member of the University of Leicester’s Women’s Rugby Team, and says that because of this, she “knows what does and doesn’t make a good social, and how important socials are with regards to bringing people together.”.
