From the heart of the Percy Gee: LUSH Radio
Broadcasting from the heart of the Percy Gee, LUSH Radio is the University of Leicester Student Radio Station. With plenty of variety, there’s so much variation that you’re certain to find something that you want to hear!
Since 1997, LUSH Radio has been run and presented by students, to students. Providing Leicester with their daily doses of alternatives to other radio stations whether your interested in a range of music, or fancy some old fashioned entertainment this is the radio station for you.
LUSH is here to cater to you: Your songs, your sounds, your station.
Officially founded in 1996, LUSH Radio is the radio station of the University of Leicester Students’ Union. It is run and presented exclusively by students and broadcasts a mixture of music, chat and our student politics, providing both Leicester students and residents with something to sweeten their day.
It is widely thought that the letter ‘H’ in the acronym ‘LUSH’ stands for ‘Hits’, making the official title “Leicester University Student Hits Radio”, lets go with that, although this title has been disputed, and alternative expressions have been assumed! Whatever you choose to assume the myth of the mystical H continues!
There are a variety of presenters and we broadcast at peak times daily, presenting music styles from indie rock, R&B, house, dance, pop and metal, all the way through to bhangra and other internationally flavoured music. But dont fear even if your not interested in music, we also present your weekly doses of sport and politics to keep all students up date.
In 2009, LUSH Radio introduced its first ever Chart Show, playing the Student Union’s Top 10 tracks as voted for by students of the University.
The station broadcasts throughout the academic year via a dedicated webcast from their studio which is currently located on the top floor of the Percy Gee Building. And furthermore coming soon on the 12th November 2015 LUSH Radio is introducing WAVE a new student night in collaboration with mixed media societies, LUSH plans to offer an alternative night for students to students.
